Problem Definition
In production processes, workflows are often based on verbal knowledge, master-apprentice transfer, and personal practices. This situation causes;
- Process variation,
- Quality fluctuation,
- Error repetition,
- Person-dependent operation structure
Therefore, workflow management is not merely an issue of documentation; it is a strategic engineering problem that directly impacts quality, efficiency, and operational continuity.
Why Was the Analysis Conducted?
Although workflows can be visually observed, they become unmeasurable and unmanageable when not systematically defined. Therefore, the analysis was designed around standard symbols, clear decision points, and a process-based structure instead of intuitive descriptions.
Within the scope of the studies conducted, all process steps were modeled with a visual flow chart, decision points and alternative flows were clarified, and points open to interpretation were eliminated.
Applied Methodology and Solutions
The following steps were followed in the analysis process conducted by the expert team:
Field Observation
The current operation was observed instantly in the field, and actual implementation steps were recorded.
Symbolic Modeling
Steps were modeled on a symbol basis (start, process, transport, decision, end), creating a visual language.
Alternative Flows
Alternative paths were defined for exceptional situations such as repair, second quality, or direct dispatch.
All flows were approved, recorded in a standard format on the Workflow Form, and turned into an operational guide.
Findings and Achievements
Analysis outputs revealed that there are multiple control and decision points in the process, and that repair flows seriously affect the main process. The achievements obtained from this study:
- The process was defined end-to-end for the first time, and a standard workflow was created.
- The risk of error and variation was reduced, making quality sustainable.
- Training and orientation processes have been facilitated by standard flows.
- A solid reference structure has been established for process improvement efforts.
- The operation was given a repeatable structure, independent of individuals.
Defining a workflow is not just drawing shapes; it is making the operation independent of individuals and improvable.
